Despite the darker setting, Lynette still manages to weave in her usual magic, such as solid friendships and colourful characters. It’s a bit darker than her previous books, as it’s set in a prison where no-one survives for long because they are literally worked to death. The story centres around Kiva Meridan, an inmate at a notorious labour prison who works as the prison healer (hence the title). I didn’t think that it was at all possible for this to surpass any of her other books, but for me it’s the absolute favourite! It was so bingeable and I couldn’t put it down. Just recently, The Prison Healer was released, which is the first book in a new series.
